Lutheran Episcopal Services in Mississippi
AREAS OF MINISTRY
"Guided by Christ's love and grace, Lutheran Episcopal Services in Mississippi seeks to bring dignity, healing, justice, hope and encouragement to all people."
The mission statement describes the philosophy behind the services we provide. These services include:
1) Lutheran Episcopal Disaster Response (LEDR)-We are currently working in areas that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Food, clothing, affordable housing, and transportation are some of our most pressing immediate concerns. Rebuilding Mississippi will be part of our continuing mission in the years to come. We will develop new ministries as needs arise in our communities.
Some of our LEDR projects and services include:
- Camp Noah: a week-long program for children who have experienced disaster, such as floods, hurricanes, tornadoes etc.
- Relief center (Camp Coast Care, Mission On the Bay)
- Case management teams
- Hardship grants
- Warehousing and transportation
- Affordable housing and coordination of volunteers
2) ENRICH-"Enhancing Needed Resources, Increasing Children's Horizons" presents summer opportunities for educational continuity and off-site cultural experiences for at-risk students.
3) Restorative Justice Programs:
- Storybook Prison Ministry, located at Central Mississippi Correctional Facility, gives inmate mothers and fathers the opportunity to record storybooks and personal messages on audio tape for their children. We hope to expand to other correctional facilities in the future.
- Camp Caritas offers a week of activities and reflection for children of incarcerated parents. This camp seeks to ensure that these children forge their own
